Do I need software for my UPS?
A UPS works without any software. Software and a USB cable add automatic safe shutdown before the battery runs out, alerts, battery health and a log of power events. Most home UPS units don't need a separate driver: Windows, macOS and Linux recognize them over USB.
Official software by brand

Automatic shutdown with Windows only
Connect the UPS with its USB cable and Windows will show it as a battery. Open Control Panel → Power Options → Change plan settings → Change advanced power settings → Battery, set "Critical battery action" to Shut down or Hibernate, and choose the critical battery level.
NAS and home servers
Synology, QNAP and most NAS systems have built-in UPS support: connect the USB cable and enable UPS in the settings. The NAS can also tell other devices on the network to shut down.
Open-source option
Network UPS Tools (NUT) supports thousands of UPS models from many brands on Linux, Windows and NAS devices, and can shut down several computers from one UPS.
Download safely
Download UPS software only from the manufacturer's official website. Avoid "driver download" sites: they often bundle unwanted software.
